Lectio inauguralis of Professor Stefano Rossi, dedicated to an innovative approach to corporate risk management

Milan – Generali is becoming a strategic partner of Università Commerciale Luigi Bocconi (Milan), following an agreement establishing the Generali Group Chair in Insurance and Risk Management.

The Chair, awarded to Stefano Rossi, full professor of the Finance Department, was presented today with a lectio inauguralis, during which an innovative approach to corporate risk management was outlined, to be understood not only as hedging of financial risks but also, and above all, management of the company’s operational risks. Speakers included the Group CEO of Assicurazioni Generali, Philippe Donnet, President of Bocconi, Mario Monti, Group CFO of Assicurazioni Generali, Luigi Lubelli, and Franklin Allen, a professor of finance and economics at Imperial College London.

“The partnership between Bocconi and a large insurance group, which boasts a presence in more than 60 countries around the world, will have benefits for both”, said the university's Chancellor, Gianmario Verona. “We will have the opportunity to conduct high-quality research on the insurance industry, which is undergoing major changes in the era of fintech, and be able to develop the knowledge of our students, through the active involvement of Generali Group in the classroom”.

“Generali has supported Università Bocconi for more than twenty years, a collaboration that has been enhanced over time, and today reaching a new stage. The insurance industry has strong interrelationships with the most important current issues and faces new challenges each day: the partnership with Università Bocconi is a valuable contribution to study, analyse and manage them”, said Group CEO of Assicurazioni Generali, Philippe Donnet.

The agreement provides for the naming of the Chair for five years, during which education and research activities will be carried out, involving participation in the scientific debate on insurance and financial matters through global research and publications, organisation of meetings, seminars and workshops, and other forms of collaboration.

The new Chair was awarded to Stefano Rossi, who has taught at the Stockholm School of Economics, Cornell University, Imperial College Business School and Purdue University. His main research interests are the relationship between legislation and finance, corporate governance, and business financial crises.
