          SMART WORKING IN WORK-LIFE BALANCE POLICIES

          By the end of 2020, 83% of Generali organizational entities* has launched smart working.
          In addition, we have relied on this way of working to safeguard the health and safety of our people during the emergency context linked to the Covid-19 pandemic by temporarily and extraordinary extending remote work to almost the entire Group population. This approach made it possible to test the new way of working, which is increasingly strategic for the future, with broader intensity and yet confirming Generali’s ambition to continue investing and committing to smart working.
           

          • In Italy, we launched the first smart working pilot project at Assicurazioni Generali, Generali Italia and Generali Business Solutions, as an organisational innovation and a response to the Global Engagement Survey on work-life balance issues. The project began in March 2016 with the involvement of the trade unions to adopt a shared modus operandi. In 2018, other companies in Italy joined the project: G.S.S., Alleanza Assicurazioni and Generali Welion.
            Smartworkers, who will be allowed to work remotely two days a week, will receive the best technological equipment including laptops and company smartphones. More than 100 managers took part in workshops on leadership and managerial issues concerning smart working.
            Involvement and participation in the project will be monitored and employee benefits will be calculated in terms of less commuting, lower CO2 emissions and savings on transport costs.
            The Smartworking programme won the Milan Polytechnic Observatory’s 2017 Smart Working Award which rewards organisations that have stood out for the introduction of smart working. 
             
          • In France employees have been allowed to work from home 2/3 days a week since 2016. At the end of 2018, 31% of employees had used this working method. Smart working has also been extended to the sales network.
             
          • In Spain we launched the Smart working pilot project in the complaints department in 2017 and extended it to other company departments in 2018. At the end of 2018, 191 employees had taken one day of smart working per week.
             
          • We also began experimenting with smart working in Hungary in 2018 with around two-thirds of employees involved.
