Civil Protection and cooperative risk-management

The severe earthquakes that struck Friuli (1976) and Irpinia (1980) are still an open wound for the Italian people. The Italian Civil Protection was raised out of the turmoil and the debris of these tragic events, with the aim to aid the population when an emergency occurs. This expertise, according to Fabrizio Curcio, Head of Department of the Italian National Civil Protection, has grown during time and now includes the protection of the territory. This goal can be reached thanks to the commitment and the accountability, both of individuals and of the whole society, through prevention activities and widespread risk awareness.
