The 4 Generali values that reflect well on daily basis

Jessica Riyanto from Generali Indonesia
Precisely on 17 March 2020, I entered my first day of working within Generali, a company with vigorous red lion as their symbol. It was also my first day being a data scientist. All kinds of feeling went through me as I approach the receptionist that will handed me a permit to go upstairs, where I am supposed to meet the HR for my welcoming. The office seemed quiet. It was later that I found out that half of the employees have already started to work from home. I was shocked. It was only 2 weeks ago where coronavirus officially entered Indonesia, it was already made such a huge shift to what I would expect a corporate would be. Where everyone else was still processing and waiting to take actions about the novel coronavirus, Generali has taken a one-step ahead action. From that moment on, I know I entered the right company.

As I adapting to my role as data scientist, I started to get the feel of how important analytics role really are inside the company. On my first involvement with projects assistance, I was assigned to help the forecast for sales during the early days of coronavirus. I did not expect that coronavirus would make such as huge impact towards insurance selling, and I realised by assisting this project, I may have helped the management to know what they must do to let the Generali ship keep sailing during the uncertain times such as pandemic. In addition to that, by leveraging analytics, I may have also helped agents to know what they must do as the frontrunner of the company. From that moment on, I know analytics works as the fuel within Generali.

As I continue my journey within Generali, I get myself familiar with 4 core values of Generali Group, which are: 1)Deliver on the promise, 2)Value the people, 3)Live the Community and 4)Be Open. When I first entered, I noticed straight away that Generali really value its people by taking a quick response to this pandemic situation. Moving on to day-to-day basis, I can clearly see how these 4 values reflected inside the company. My direct leader and my peers really showed me what it means to deliver on the promise. As a group of analytics, our analysis and recommendation are often expected, be it on personal, department, division, and even on a whole business level. Trying to deliver on the promise means that we must deliver our best possible analysis within the right timing in order to support the business level on making the right decision. From that moment on, I know that I'm making an impact in what I do and I must commit to deliver on the promise.

About the end of the year 2020, I was firstly introduced to THSN, Generali partner for their CSR activity. I noticed that THSN was recruiting ambassadors, and I could not be more excited to apply. I realised early on that the third Generali value, which is 'Live the Community', is highly shown on their CSR activities. Many great humanity program such as story-telling, cooking class, donations, and even free-mask distribution during this pandemic season started from THSN. I signed up as THSN ambassador as a journalists and I'm really amazed by how well and caring Generali Group really is about developing these program on a global scale. From that moment on, I know I can giving back a little to the community I am in through joining this program.

Reflecting on what I really value from my time here so far with Generali, I noticed the whole experience are wrapped up into one last, but not least, 4th value 'Be Open'. Here in Generali, everyone are open to grow. It is the best environment where any seeds could grow as big as they wish for. The openness culture within Generali really drives working spirit and supports capability at its finest. From this moment on, I know I will keep doing my best for any upcoming projects within Generali.
