Generali, a global network of protection

(Gabriele Galateri di Genola at Corriere della Sera, Italy’s leading newspaper - Summary)

In the fight against the Covid-19 epidemic, the joint and coordinated effort of leading businesses on a global level is an absolute priority. This is the appeal made by the Chairman of Assicurazioni Generali, Gabriele Galateri di Genola, during the B20 task force, the international business committee providing support and guidance to the G20, which was held last week. And it is precisely the Covid-19 emergency that could warrant bringing forward the Major Economies Forum scheduled for November 2020.

Galateri highlighted how Generali, through its international presence, was able to gather important insights from the scenarios emerging primarily in China, and take timely action by developing the first Covid-19 protection policy for employees of small and medium-sized enterprises in the country, in collaboration with its partner Nanyan InsurTech.

In order to tackle the Covid-19 emergency, on 12 March, the Generali Board of Directors established an Extraordinary International Fund of up to € 100 million, 30 million of which is earmarked for immediate use in Italy. At the same time, the Company mobilised its global network, involving all of its Business Units so that they can take steps to find and identify the best suppliers to purchase the necessary medical equipment, starting with respirators.

In addition, the Group has already taken important action in Italy. The focus has been on employees through the initiation of smart working, as well as on households and companies, providing specific health cover and guaranteeing compensation in the event of the interruption of activities. The following steps were also taken: a campaign to remind customers that important forms of assistance for medical consultations and hospitalisation allowance are provided in their policies, as well as forms of protection for households, and the suspension, extension and deferment of life and non-life insurance premiums.

The wheels are in motion and Generali is committed to pursuing its values to “enable people to shape a safer future with the desire to be a Lifetime Partner to its customers”.
