Barcolana57 Award Ceremony
The conclusion of an edition marked by strong participation, community energy and a renewed commitment to inclusion through the Generali - Women in Sailing Trophy
The 57th edition of the Barcolana presented by Generali officially closed on Sunday 30th November. A few weeks after the regatta held on 12th October, the crews who achieved the best results across the different categories stepped onto the stage of the Politeama Rossetti in Trieste, celebrating an edition that saw an incredible participation of over 1,800 boats.
During the award ceremony, Barcolana presented 124 awards, recognising the top performers across 15 competing categories, from the overall rankings to the Cruise and One-Design classes. Several trophies introduced in 2024 returned this year: the Miro Cernaz Trophy, honouring the historic SVBG sea director; the Solaris Trophy linked to the Barcolana Solaris Adriatic Cup; and La Mula de Trieste, the challenge trophy awarded to the best-placed female owner from Trieste, represented by the original bronze model of Nino Spagnoli’s iconic sculpture.
As presenting partner, Generali has not only renewed but also expanded its commitment to equity and inclusion through the Generali Women in Sailing project, launched in 2019 and now in its seventh edition. Its goal is to promote youth sailing by creating mixed teams, so that the number of women in decision-making roles on board increases not only in the world’s largest regatta but in all sailing competitions.
The Generali – Women in Sailing Trophy was awarded to Marta 07, helmed by Giulia Ascione of Yacht Club Adriaco, who took first place, followed by Mundus with Cristiana Monina (Real Club Náutico de Barcelona), and finally Bandito with Federica Tuniz (Società Velica Oscar Cosulich).
The first-place winner will have the opportunity to benefit from a personalized coaching and leadership program curated by Generali Academy, designed to bring female leadership skills from sailing into everyday life.
The project has evolved over the years, in collaboration with Barcolana, with the creation of a platform of freely accessible educational content dedicated in particular to instructors, families and sailing clubs, the latter involved in the project to amplify the impact of the initiative.
“Mixed sailing is establishing itself as an important tool – working together, men and women, not only improves team performance but offers new models also outside this sport and paves the way for real equality of opportunity and recognition throughout life. Congratulations to the winners; our hope is that the number of mixed teams continues to grow,” said Emma Ursich, Generali Group Head of Corporate Identity and CEO of The Human Safety Net.
Alongside the Barcolana awards, the ceremony also hosted the proclamation of the winners of the Adriatico Classic Trophy, the circuit uniting three prestigious regattas for vintage and classic boats: the Hannibal Classic, the Trofeo Città di Trieste and the Barcolana Classic – Trofeo SIAD. Bringing these awards into the Barcolana setting further highlighted the rich nautical heritage of the Upper Adriatic, creating a symbolic bridge between modern racing fleets and the timeless elegance of classic sailing.
Barcolana57 once again showcased the unique blend of sport, culture and community that characterises the event, reaffirming the shared values of teamwork, inclusion and sustainability that Generali promotes through its initiatives.
The next edition is set for Sunday, 11th October 2026, when Trieste will host the 58th Barcolana presented by Generali.
