The Generali Group Ethical Code published for the first time in May 2004, systematically describes and exposes
in a single document, the fundamental ethical principles inspiring the business
conduct of the people operating within the Company and the Group.
The document takes over a series of values that are already enshrined within
those working inside the Group, and highlights common concepts that are shared
by the countries where the different Group companies operate.
Six years after it was first approved, an update was felt necessary, principally
to consider the socio-economic changes and the new Group strategies, which increasingly
focus on creating value for all types of stakeholders.
The new Ethical Code reaffirms the general principles and states explicitly the fundamental human
rights, labour rights, environmental protection and the fight against corruption,
that by the adhesion to the UN Global Compact, the Group has undertaken to apply
in its own strategies, policies and every day activities.
The Ethical Code does not include a detailed description of the Code of Conduct
to be followed by the Group in every possible situation.
It is mostly a very general and abstract Charter of values, where all the Group’s
fundamental and inalienable values - whose compliance is mandatory - are laid
down.
The Ethical Code and any updating are defined and approved by the Parent Company’s
Board of Directors. It is translated in each language of the countries where the
Group operates and is published on the Generali website and on those of its main
subsidiaries.
A specific training programme to the entire Group is provided in order to ensure
a wide distribution and correct comprehension of the Code’s contents.
