On 28 May 2010, Managing Director Giovanni Perissinotto presented the Generali Group's sixth Sustainability Report at the Università Ca’ Foscari in Venice. The Report has been approved by the
Board of Directors of the Parent Company and published only a few weeks after
the Group’s Financial Statements.
The 2009 Sustainability Report confirms past choices, first and foremost the
international perspective: the geographical area it covers, which includes the
main countries in which the Group operates - Italy, Austria, France (excluding
Europ Assistance), Germany, Israel, Spain and Switzerland, and this year also
includes the Czech Republic. The 2009 Sustainability Report area represents 67.2%
of the entire Group in terms of workforce and 85.5% in terms of total gross direct
premiums.
Concerning data update, quantitative data refer to financial year while qualitative
data are updated up to the first months of 2010.
The focus is on insurance and banking business, including service-related businesses.
Compared to previous editions following changes have been introduced:
- further information is provided on countries outside the Sustainability Report
area to trace a general picture of the main relevant issues, such as human and
workers’ rights and training, initiatives targeted at the community and environmental
protection;
- the introduction of a summary of the management approach to relations with the
different categories of significant stakeholders which shows the main policies
and goals by category. The summary represents an evolution of the existing Table
of goals, which will shortly be developed in tables for more timely reporting,
for each category of stakeholder, on achieving the set goals;
- expansion of the chapter on the environment, which reports on the important results
already obtained as part of the project aimed at introducing a Group Environment
Management System;
- integration of the annual Communication on Progress at Global Compact into the
GRI identification table, in line with the guidelines as set out in the Making
the Connection publication, which is jointly edited by the two organisations.
