Protecting the environment as a primary asset is one of the Generali Group’s
guiding values. As defined in its Ethical Code, the Group has made a commitment
to direct its own decisions towards ensuring compatibility between economic and
environmental factors.
The Environmental Policy of the Generali Grouphas been defined and approved in 2009.
It confirms the Group is committed to safeguarding the environment, as stated
in its Ethical Code.
The definition and standardization of the Environmental Policy are the first
steps of the international project launched in early 2009 and aimed at implementing
a Group Environmental Management System (EMS). This system allows to efficiently manage environmental aspects.
The Sustainability Committee is the decision-making body that defines, valuates and reviews Group policies,
environmental objectives and targets on the basis of the feedbacks from national
CSRCommittees. These latter committees communicate decisions taken at Corporate Centre level
to local Group companies and implement them by defining proper programmes.
The Environmental Management System Committee, i.e. the pre-existing Eco Committee, has an important role in the EMS implementation.
It is an operative committee comprising of the Italian Group managers with the
competencies required to attain project objectives relating to Real Estate Management,
Purchasing and Logistics, IT, Human Resources, Strategic Marketing and Corporate
Social Responsibility Departments, with the addition of the CSR contact from each
country involved.
