The European Works Council (EWC), set up in 1997 pursuant to directive 94/45/EC,
is the representative body of the Group European Workers. It is made up of 40
delegates coming from
17 EU Member States where the Generali Group employs at least 50 staff members.
The Agreement, governing the EWC in force today, was renewed at the end of 2007. It governs
the Council role and functioning and its main target is to inform and consult
the EWC delegates on transnational issues concerning the Group. The agreement
strengthens the attention paid by the Generali Group to corporate issues concerning
workers, with a view to promoting corporate dialogue at transnational level and,
by making reference to the European Social Charter, at national level.
In order to increase the effectiveness of information and consultation processes,
the EWC appoints 7 representatives as members of the Select Committee (SC). The latter is the main interlocutor in the dialogue with the Parent Company
and may give non-biding opinions on the measures taken by the Group.
Three ordinary meetings with the SC and two ordinary meetings with the EWC are
held every year in plenary session, in which the Head of Group HR participates
together with the Corporate Center Office “EWC Relations” and in at least two
occasions the Group’s Top Management joins them.
Under exceptional circumstances considerably affecting workers in at least two
countries, ad hoc meetings are also organized to inform and consult the SC and
the delegates of the countries concerned.
The office "
EWC Relations" set up in the Central Head Office is in charge of dealing with the relations
and the permanent dialogue with the EWC Secretary and the SC delegates.
